Habitat for Humanity Proposed Project for 335 Pierce Road

Dear Members of the Menlo Park City Council,

I strongly support the proposed Habitat for Humanity housing project, recognizing how deeply it resonates with the needs of our communities here on the peninsula.

Our communities continue to struggle with a pressing housing affordability crisis. Many hardworking residents—teachers, healthcare workers, service employees, seniors, veterans, and young families—find it increasingly difficult to afford market-rate housing despite their dedication and contributions to our city. Projects like this offer a vital opportunity for these individuals and families to find safe, stable, and affordable homes.

Habitat for Humanity has a commendable history of building quality homes and nurturing neighborhood bonds. Their homeownership program involves participants giving hundreds of volunteer hours, completing financial education, and purchasing homes with affordable mortgages. This compassionate model fosters responsibility, stability, and a genuine sense of community involvement.

Supporting this project will help meet our citys urgent housing needs, while giving families the chance to build equity, establish roots, and contribute to the vitality of our local economy. Affordable housing is key to ensuring our community remains diverse, inclusive, and thriving—where everyone, regardless of income, can find a place to live and flourish.

I kindly and sincerely urge the City Council to approve and support this meaningful initiative. It will have a lasting positive impact on the families who will make these houses their homes and on our community as a whole.

Thank you for your dedicated service and your compassionate consideration of this important project.

Sincerely,

Lourdes Best

East Palo Alto Resident
