Dear Council Members:
The proposed Menlo Park Sunset Magazine site project will create a
traffic nightmare and environmental disaster if completed.
The project is located at the Willow/Middlefield intersection, and
Willow Road is Menlo Parks primary access to Highway 101 and the
Dumbarton bridge. The current Level of Service (LOS) at this
intersection is rated "E" - close to failing capacity with very long
delays. The worst rating of "F" is gridlock and total failure. This
project will clearly increase congestion to the "F" category and beyond
(if that were possible) as Willow Road becomes permanently impassible.
As construction begins, moving equipment will further impede the already
snail-paced traffic flow. Nearby adjacent neighborhoods will be flooded
with traffic as drivers try to avoid the construction chaos and later,
the gridlocked road itself.
I hope a comprehensive EIR will consider these factors as well as those
affecting the San Francisquito Creek, etc., and use whatever enforcement
mechanisms are available to you.
Respectfully,
Irv Brenner
