Good morning!
We have lived in the Linfield Oaks neighborhood for nearly 15 years and are completely satisfied with the current management of Burgess Pool. During this time, our family has used the pool extensively. Both our kids learned to swim at Burgess and participated in summer camps and swim team. My husband swam with the Masters swimmers and still occasionally swims during lunch. Our high school son now works as a lifeguard at Burgess and loves his job so much! This photo he took at dawn last winter was featured in “In Menlo” magazine.
Burgess pool is a gem and a vital public health resource, and from our perspective, it serves the community well. While many public and private pools have been forced to shut down this summer because of a nationwide lifeguard shortage, Tim Sheeper has managed to keep Burgess pool up and running for the community. If anything, he should be recognized and applauded for his commitment to our community, not publicly condemned in the news by City Council.
Threats by City Council to close the pool on short notice due to contract disputes are upsetting to the community and erode confidence in City management at a time when people desperately need stability in their lives.
Closing the pool serves no one.
We strongly urge the Menlo Park City Council to reconsider its position and to keep in mind all the kids and families you will be hurting. Please, keep Burgess Pool open!
Sincerely,
Tricia Teason
