NorCal Public Media nominated for six Public Media Awards

Northern California Public Media (NorCal) has received six nominations from the National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) for the 56th Annual Public Media Awards.

“Congratulations to all of the honorees,” said NETA President Eric Hyyppa. “They are truly outstanding and shine a spotlight on the innovative and impactful work that is happening across the public media system.” Winners will be announced at the 56th Public Media Awards on September 15, 2024, at the NETA Conference and CPB Public Media Thought Leader Forum in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Nomination for Community Engagement–Local Project goes to Trust & Democracy, a community series of discussions with journalists and community members about the importance of independent and local journalism and an informed public in the democratic process.

The Nomination for Special Events goes to the NorCal Public Media Food & Wine Awards, NorCal’s annual fundraiser for environmental programming and spotlight on local heroes in food, the environment and farms in the region.

The Nomination for Radio-News & Public Affairs goes to Rooted & Reenergized: Environmental & Energy Stories from the Ground Up, the KRCB Newsroom’s ongoing reporting series spanning the intersection of energy, food production and the environment in the North Bay.

The Nomination for Radio-Environment goes to Ear to the Wild, a continuous series of wildlife audio clips and commentary airing on KRCB 104.9FM, NorCal’s NPR radio station serving the North Bay, produced and presented by environmental advocate and soundscape ecologist Jack Hines. Ear to the Wild is also available as a podcast.

The Nomination for Annual Report goes to NorCal’s 2023 Local Content and Service Report to the Community. This is the fourth consecutive nomination for Northern California Public Media in this category. NorCal won this award after all three previous nominations.

The sixth Nomination is for Independent Producer and honors storyteller and world traveler Ernest White II, producer of the travel docuseries Fly Brother with Ernest White II about making friendships and connections around the world.

“These nominated community-focused service projects and productions speak to the high-quality work of our staff and their commitment to viewers, listeners, and learners in the Bay Area,” said NorCal President & CEO Darren LaShelle.
