No New Jails
Mass incarceration is a failed vestige of slavery not just in Santa Clara
County but across this country …..
We gas folks, we tase them, we even place canines in some of our jails -all
of this extreme cruelty while locking humans in cages, and we wonder why we
have the most violent society ever to exist. Our leadership, our BOS, are
people of vision, and we would hope that as we contemplate options...that
don’t spell the word jails. That they are not afraid to stand up to the law
enforcement leaders in this county who always want to expand their turf
—even when it is done at the expense of true community needs —needs that
address real solutions not more of the same revolving door that constitutes
a living hell for those forced to enter it. Time to say no to the
madness! Invite Angela Davis to speak on the abolition of our prison
industrial complex-even if you don’t adopt all of her perspectives, at
least listen. I was fortunate enough to sit though her trial right down the
street. A most elegant speaker, thinker, writer.
