Dear Mayor Nash, City Council, and Staff,
I am writing in strong support of Agenda Item J2 and the resolution to make
the Coleman Avenue Pilot project permanent (Staff Report #26-151-CC).
Bicycle safety is critical for families making the decision about whether
they feel comfortable having their children bike to school. When we create
Safe Routes to school we make life better for everyone: the children get
exercise, we reduce the number of cars on the road which is better for
folks who must drive, families save money via reduced gas/electricity use,
and we all benefit from less vehicle emissions resulting in better air
quality and doing our part to prevent the worst of climate change.
In the future I hope you will continue to support incremental, data-driven
approaches to improving our connected network of safe routes so that
bicyclists are protected in our community. And I look forward to seeing
protected bike lanes on El Camino!
