Dear Councilmembers,
My name is Susan Patrick, and my husband and I live in the Willows
neighborhood of Menlo Park. We are writing to oppose N17s proposal for the
enormous development at 80 Willow Road. We particularly are concerned about
the possibility of the project going forward without a completed
environmental impact report.
We have lived in the Willows since 1997, and while we are well aware of the
need for more housing in Menlo Park, the site proposed will just bring in
so many more jobs than (especially affordable) housing, and in an area that
is not easily walkable to Caltrain and downtown Menlo Park. In the years we
have been here we have experienced multiple near floods of San Francisquito
creek and are acutely cognisant of how precarious the environmental health
of the creek area is and how important careful review before undertaking
any large project would be.
The number of proposed units throughout the city - not just at 80 Willow -
add so much commercial space (though we see plenty of signs of available
commercial space now!) and so many more students to a district that is
already dependent on basic aid funding, that we ask you to rebut the
Attorney Generals letter and defend the citys original analysis of the
proposed project.
