Dear Mayor Nash, Vice Mayor Wolosin, and Councilmembers Mueller, Taylor, and Combs,
I’m following up with you in the hope that the Menlo Park city council will soon be able to join cities across the Peninsula in passing a resolution regarding Sutter Health’s closure of the Mickelson Therapy Pool.
A complete list of official resolutions and letters of support received so far can be found here: https://warmwaterwellness.org/community-support. We have now received almost 5,000 signatures on our petition at change.org.
Please let us know if you have any questions about this request or if we can help in any way.
Thank you for your assistance.

Subject: Resolution Request - Mickelson Therapy Pool Closure
Dear Mayor Nash, Vice Mayor Wolosin, and Councilmembers Mueller, Taylor, and Combs,
Just over a year ago, Sutter Health permanently closed the Mickelson Therapy Pool in San Mateo. This facility was built with community donations 25 years ago to provide pain relief for seniors, pregnant women, children with special needs, those with disabilities, and anyone recovering from surgery. The Mickelson pool was the only warm water therapy pool on the Peninsula and served citizens of all ages and from all communities. My husband was a pool user for almost 20 years and it contributed immensely to his health and quality of life. This once vibrant and well-used facility now sits empty and abandoned and people are suffering.
There have been many letters from Mickelson Therapy Pool users and doctors calling on Sutter Health to re-open the pool, either sent to Sutter Health’s Corporate offices and/or published in the San Mateo Daily Journal. There have also been resolutions passed by the cities of Millbrae, Burlingame, San Mateo, and Foster City, the County Board of Supervisors and the Sequoia Healthcare District (see attached list).
We are extremely grateful for all the support received to date. We are requesting that the city of Menlo Park add their support by passing a resolution recognizing the plight of those seeking relief from pain and demanding the pool's reopening. Alternatively, Sutter Health should return the amount originally donated — $7.2 million in today’s money — to build a new facility for the community.
I am enclosing a copy of the resolution passed by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors that could serve as a template. Also attached is a paper entitled “The Need for Therapeutic Resources on the Peninsula” that describes the situation in more depth. Our website, warmwaterwellness.org, contains this information and more.
Please let me know if I can answer any questions about this request.
Sincerely,
Jane Stahl
