Dear Sirs,
I strongly feel that the proposed closing of Middle Avenue to all parking had to be the choice of those who have never been there. First and foremost, Middle is a very busy street which is a freeway of cars a good part of the time, but mostly at the times when children would be peddling on their own. The traffic from both the El Camino entry and the one in the opposite direction, down from 280 is constant and often hurried. A small child or a big child would not stop the driver from being on time on his busy commute day. With this being the main concern, it goes without saying, that also, there is hardship that would be demanded of the homeowners. Many have one car garages in the blocks closest to El Camino and this could mean that the garage might not be used for a car, but storage, thus the driveway is not available for many other demands on a homeowner. There are gardeners, house cleaners, guests, visiting nurses and other medical people such as physical therapists that come weekly. Some homeowners have more than one car. How do they deal with that?
It is seldom that I see bikers on the street where I live. I live close to El Camino and probably any clear minded
adult would not send their child on their bike to risk biking with the onslaught of traffic that invades our streets.
Surely there are safer venues for our children. I cant ignore sharing with you that there are a lot of elderly folks that live in this area, as I am one of them, and at 88 I know how much I depend on the many caregivers and friends that help me from day to day. Do not overlook the needs of others.
Sincerely,
Jeanette Mell
