Agenda item G1 tonight (Coleman/Santa Monica stop sign)

Hi City Council members,

First, thanks for all you do for our city. Ive realized over this last election cycle how challenging and thankless your essential job is!

Second, as a resident of Coleman Ave, I wanted to voice my support for the addition of a stop sign at the Coleman/Santa Monica intersection. As I hope the council is aware, Coleman is a walking and biking route to/from Upper Laurel, Lower Laurel, and M-A. There are also many Hillview, Menlo and Sacred Heart students who bike on Coleman to and from school. This intersection is also the site of multiple school bus stops in the morning and the afternoon. On top of all this student traffic - Coleman is a place were any time of the day you can find many members of the community biking and walking.

Unfortunately, Coleman has become a primary route for traffic trying to avoid Willow, Bay and Middlefield. We need to keep commuters off our neighborhood streets and on roads that are built for them, like Willow, Bay, and Middlefield. This stop sign is a start - we also need more extreme measures, like preventing right turns onto Coleman from Willow in the morning or speed bumps, etc.

Thanks for your consideration!

Best,

James
