Pickleball courts on tennis courts in Menlo Park

I would like to ask the City Manager and City Council to reconsider conversion of tennis courts to pickleball courts. These conversions appear to be occurring without proper review or feedback from the community.

I have attached a photo of what a “dual use” pickleball / tennis court would look like. A court lined this way is just not usable for tennis players, especially for kids on the Hillview middle school tennis team. These extra lines make the courts illegal, confusing, and unplayable for tennis matches, and even practice.

The same reasoning applies to not adding a hoop and basketball lines inside tennis courts. Or shuffleboard. It does not work, and non tennis activities should be done outside of the established VERY solidly used tennis courts.

Please establish pickleball courts in the gymnasium, as San Carlos has, or in other locations.

My 2 boys went through the Hillview Middle School tennis program, using the tennis courts at Nealon Park. This program is very inclusive with many kids using these tennis courts. Please don’t take away these kids ability to use these courts, by ruining them with pickleball lines, or basketball lines, etc.

Thanks,
