Middle Avenue parking options

Dear Council Members,

I will address what appears to be the major issue expressed so far on Middle Avenue parking. How can the city improve biking by children between home and school without imposing major disruptions to MP residents and services who may need to live on or use Middle Avenue at other times?

Council already knows the times when school kids need to arrive at and leave the area schools. Council could easily impose a no-parking rule on one side of Middle for the hour or so when children are biking to school. Similarly, Council could easily impose another no-parking rule on the other side of Middle for the hour or so when children are biking from school. Removing parking on one side of the street on each of the 180 school days for an hour appears much more reasonable for the community at large than removing all parking on one or both sides of the street for 8760 hours in the year. Seriously considering a proposal like the above would demonstrate to all residents that the Council is searching for a reasonable solution for everyone where the competing sides would move away from their talking points and compromise.

Adopting a solution that recognizes everyone’s needs will move us forward not only on this particular issue but on all future topics where you want community support.

Thank you,
Hill Huntington
