Honorable Council Member
I am writing to you as President of the Peninsula Volunteers Inc., whose mission is allowing seniors to age in place. As you may know, PVI operates Little House, a senior activity center behind Nealon Park, as well as Rosener House, an adult day care center on the corner of Arbor and Middle.
We are very concerned about the possibility of eliminating all parking along Middle Ave. Little House holds multiple classes, events and activities throughout each day, for our clients as well as different community groups, and the parking lot behind Nealon Park is heavily. As seniors, many of them frail, parking close to our facility is critical, and biking is simply not realistic. Many of our clients at Rosener House are likewise frail and unable to walk any distance at all.
Our concern is that if all parking is eliminated from Middle many people, whether residents, service people or guests, will use either or both of these lots making it difficult or impossible for out clients to park within a realistic distance from our facilities.
If the Council feels compelled to vote for one of the three options presented, we urge you to vote for Option 3.
The Almanac recently published a resident opinion piece online about this issue. In case you did not see it, here is the link: Does Replacing All Street Parking On Middle Avenue With Bike Lanes Actually Make Sense? | Creating A More Vibrant Menlo Park | Dana Hendrickson | Almanac Online | (almanacnews.com) This gentleman makes some well-reasoned points about the project with some thoughtful suggestions.
Please do NOT vote to eliminate all parking along Middle. Not only will it severely impact the homeowners along the street, it will have a drastic impact on our clients at Little House and Rosener House, many of whom are longtime Menlo Park residents who have given decades of service to the city.
Thank you for your time.
