Id like to register my opposition to the proposal that the City Council consider a fully-elevated rail structure through Menlo Park.
While some of the fully-elevated options presented try to allay the concerns about impacts on residences and businesses, the fact is that a 20-foot tall retaining wall cutting through the heart of the city would turn what is a nice, vibrant small-town transportation corridor into a concrete wasteland.
Menlo Park grew up around the train station, and it remains an important part of downtown. Despite the recent spate of development in the area, the City should strive to retain this unique aesthetic. A fully-elevated track on a 20-foot wall towering above would ruin it.
Dont waste City resources on alternatives that would permanently leave a scar.
