This is a totally egregious request and I support the opposition by the neighbors on safety issues.
I also think it is absolutely unforgiveable that there is a plan by members of an elite club that charges people $300,000 to join, to petition the city to allow them to destroy 455 trees many of which are heritage and extremely healthy, just to adorn a golf course.
Menlo Park is supposedly a city of trees which is fast becoming a joke since trees are trashed willy nilly to accommodate developers greed. Trees are important in mitigating climate change effects and provide cooling, important habitat, and drainage. Replacement saplings will NOT be an adequate replacement for heritage trees. I believe it is erroneous to claim that no CEQA analysis is required. Stanford had to do an environmental analysis when they were caught grading and altering their golf course and it cost them $thousands. What are the impacts of removing all these trees?
