Dear Mayor & Councilmembers,
In regards to the Kelly Park renovation project, I wanted to make a few comments / suggestions:
* Please consider using a cork/coconut (aka corkonut) for the turf infill. This is healthier for the users of the field, more sustainable, and results in lower surface temperatures. From the plans in the staff report it appears that this material will be used but just wanted to confirm.
* Please make sure the old synthetic turf is disposed of properly. Ideally it will somehow be recycled. Please make every effort to keep it out of the landfill.
* Although Im not aware of other options (although I will do more research) beyond natural grass and synthetic turf, please consider exploring other more sustainable options other than synthetic turf. Plastics, in general, are a growing societal / environmental issue and the more we install synthetic turf solutions, the greater the problem will become as they need to be replaced when they reach the end of their useful life.
