On Tree Failures (3 of 4) - Regulation - Permeable Surfaces, Blowers!

(Here are some ideas/thoughts to the ongoing discussion on Heritage Trees, Tree Failures, Safety, and Canopy conservation. Rather than sending a single large message, Im sending 4 related messages)

Some specific actions to help our canopy

* Emphasize the benefits of permeable surfaces and how they benefit trees. Provide information on permeable driveways.

* Enforce - or at least inform - of the impact of reduced permeable lot percentages to our trees and vegetation. I dont know what, if anything, can be done regarding ADUs that are added to lots. At the least we can inform the homeowners that new construction that reduces the permeable area of the lot can damage existing or new trees, which will reduce the benefits of canopy and may even put the homeowner at risk.

* Ban blowers. Ive seen multiple discussions on the noise impact of gas blowers but only recently I was aware of the impact of blowers, any blower, on health conditions like asthma, and the impact of blowing leaves on the health of tree roots and other ground cover - https://soilsalive.com/how-leaf-blowers-destroy-your-topsoil
