Fellow Council Members —
As a resident of Menlo Park I’m writing in reference to, and in full support of, the proposed development of the Clockworks Restaurant on El Camino, adjacent to the Guild Theatre.
As we know, Menlo Park sits at the literal and figurative intersection of imagination and possibility. More companies and economic growth have been born and backed through the wellspring of our local intellectual talents than almost any comparative municipality of size and footprint.
And yet for years, the town had been committed to preserving a past that has been to its own economic and cultural detriment; setting in stark relief when compared to all which has been created by our residents.
The arrival of the Guild, and soon SpringLine and others that followed, an exciting and necessary cultural and culinary revitalization that our town so desperately needed; both to attract a new kind of economic development but to satiate the expectations of our current and future residents.
Ask around. The answer to the question “Culturally, what does this town need more than anything else?” is nearly unanimous. More restaurants. More well-appointed places of assembly. More opportunity to engage, celebrate and honor the dynamism that has long since been inert, and as such, diverted to towns North and South. The Guild helped the town locate and tap into cultural gold. The Clockworks Restaurant will help ensure all can benefit from a more vibrant, accessible and tastefully re-mastered downtown.
Thank you for considering this important development.
Kind regards,
