Dear City Council & Planning Commission,
I wanted to express my support for the addition of the Clockworks Restaurant in downtown Menlo Park. The Guild Theater has brought an influx of wonderful music and entertainment to the community and truly is a beacon for the Bay Area music scene. It is a first class venue that delivers the most intimate entertainment experience in the region and that is supported by the top flight acts that consistently visit.
Having a vibrant restaurant that so naturally complements the allure of The Guild will only enhance the overall cultural experience that the city offers. While The Guild may be viewed by some as a neighborhood theater, given its rich history, the fact is it now attracts visitors from all around the Bay Area and beyond. Having an anchor restaurant that provides an equally enjoyable experience will make a visit to The Guild and Menlo Park even more inviting.
If you think about some of the other iconic music venues in the Bay Area, like the Fillmore, Bimbos, Masonic, The Greek, there isnt an automatic restaurant component that comes to mind. Sure, there are places nearby, but nothing truly complementary or seamless.
Its human nature for us to gravitate to things we know are going to deliver memorable/enjoyable experiences and I firmly believe that having that first class music-food combination will give Menlo Park an attraction that is unique to the rest of the Bay Area.
