Honorable Council Members,
I read in the Almanac about Mr Louch’s recommendation to lower speed limits on thoroughfares through town. Hard to believe we are going through this yet again.
The speed limits we have are a balance between working people needing to get across town and the preferences for adjacent homeowners. 30 mph on Ravenswood or Middlefield or Bay Road is reasonable. The issue my neighborhood and others have - have long had - is lack of enforcement. Making an unenforced limit even lower will only raise the frustration level of our own residents as some seek to drive 25 while others will tailgate or grab their iphones.
We have debated this multiple times: the city needs to step up and provide rotating enforcement of existing speed law. People dont soon forget getting a ticket. Buying a new set of unenforced limit signs is not the answer.
