Hi Council members,
Writing to express my gratitude for the increased support for bicycling safety in Menlo Park, which I have seen through Complete Streets commission, Safe Routes to Schools, Ringwood-Coleman project, Middle ave under crossing, and other projects.
With increased bicycle safety in mind, Medium website wrote about crowd sourced bicycling route usage from Strava Metro data from Strava highlights how Santa Clara county uses greater resources of data to identify the needs of cyclists. I would like to see Menlo Park use greater data sources to find the greatest needs.
I would like to elevate the need for more roads to be identified for bicycling infrastructure projects for Menlo Park, for example, Woodland rd which from the Strava data is one of the most frequented roads in Menlo Park, yet, as far as I’m aware, has no current improvement plans despite dangerous conditions for pedestrians and cyclists.
Furthermore, there needs to be more of a direct bicycle route connecting east and west Menlo Park to get bicycles off Ravenswood; this can be accomplished by the proposed tunnel to Middle Ave, which should be prioritized. There is also significant opportunity with the SRI redevelopment to get a more direct bicycle pathway/road from Ringwood rd through SRI to Burgess Park/ Middle under crossing.
Happy Holidays!
Thanks,
Kevin Rennie
