Dear Menlo Park Councilmembers,
Thank you for making the Coleman pilot program permanent. As a Laurel
Elementary School family, we rely on Coleman for our children’s daily bike
rides to and from school. The improvements have made a meaningful
difference in how comfortable we feel about their commute.
We hope the city will build on this progress by installing flexible posts
along the bike lane. Cars frequently park or idle in the lane, forcing our
children to leave it and merge into faster-moving traffic. This is a
situation no child should have to navigate on the way to school.
Paint alone does not feel sufficient. Flexible posts would create a clearer
separation between the bike lane and vehicle traffic and help discourage
drivers from blocking the lane. We ask the city to prioritize this
additional safety measure so our children, and others who depend on this
route, can get to school and return home safely every day.
