Dear Mayor and City Council Members,
I have watched ambulances traveling down Santa Cruz Avenue with sirens and
lights flashing, only to have to stop to decide what to do when they see
the barrier.
I have watched them decide to go left at Chestnut and get trapped in the
backed up lines of cars on Oak Grove Avenue. I have watched them go right
and snake their way through the parking lot behind Walgreens to get to El
Camino.
If you, or your family member, were in the ambulance and every minute
mattered, would you want to be delayed so a few people could sit there
sometimes? (Mostly it is empty.)
The person suffering a medical emergency has no choice but to lose crucial
minutes that matter over this curious notion that blocking a street yields
"vitality."
