Dear Council:
Thank you for your service to our citizenry.
I urge you to begin the process of slowing traffic citywide by voting to lower speed limits to 25 mph on all roads adjacent to school zones, including on Middlefield Rd at Menlo-Atherton High School, along Middle Ave by the New Beginnings School, and on Valpariso Ave adjacent to Sacret Heart and Menlo School. The City appears to be in violation of the California Vehicle Code by having speed limits above 25 mph in these zones.
I also encourage a 25 mph speed limit along the entirety of Middle Ave, a very dangerous and busy corridor for children cycling to school, and for pedestrians and cyclists crossing at San Mateo ave to access the bicycle bridge.
Finally, please do not accept the 35 mph recommendation from Staff on Alpine Rd. This is a popular and heavily used corridor for cyclists and an often congested and dangerous parking area for access to the Dish. The road also lacks adequate site lines for such a high speed.
Thank you for your consideration of the above.
