make Coleman Ave safer

To Menlo Park City Council,

I am writing in advance of the October 22 study session to Consider next steps for the Coleman and Ringwood Avenues Transportation Study. As a mother of 2 children at Laurel Elementary School, I am committed to ABC (Anything But Car) as a way to protect the environment and improve quality of life. However, despite being a major thoroughfare for students biking and walking to school, Coleman Ave is not as bike friendly or as safe as it could be. My older son will attend Upper Laurel next year, and I would like for him to be able to bike to school from our neighborhood in Flood Triangle. The most obvious bike route would be along Coleman, and there are a number of options currently on the table that would make this bike journey safer for all children and families.

Therefore, I support the following actions that the Menlo Park City Council can take:

* Remove parking on one side to facilitate bicycle improvements within City section
* Install traffic calming measures within City section
* Express support for the one-way pilot within the County section

Thank you for your consideration and your work on this issue!

Respectfully,

Lesley Feldman
