Dear City Council:
As a Laurel parent, I want to express my concerns about the dangers on Coleman Avenue for Menlo Park families biking, walking, or scootering to school. Its shocking that our community has not taken steps to improve safety despite years of increasing congestion from parked cars, drivers, e-bikes, pedestrians, and cyclists heading to Menlo Atherton High School, Laurel and other schools.
Having walked and biked this route for eight years with my children, Ive seen many impatient drivers speed past cars that are already slowing down for cyclists. The road simply doesn’t have enough space for everyone to travel safely.
Many people use alternative transportation for various reasons: necessity, environmental responsibility, or simply to connect with their community. We need to take action to make Coleman Avenue safer for all. Please consider making the county road one-way, removing parking on one side, and adding traffic calming measures like stop signs and speed tables.
Thank you for adding Coleman to your agenda and for all you do to better our community.
Many thanks,
Michael and Tom Aaron
