Piloting one-way on Coleman is the most sensible first step to try to make a green pedestrian and bike corridor while preserving many, many heritage trees that line the road. This would allow forward movement in trying solutions for this situation.
Given the number of schools in this area and the complex municipality situation, I urge you to work with the county of San Mateo and the local schools to make transportation more thoughtful in this area. For example, Coleman Avenue is a tree-filled street used by many students commuting to school. Coordinating the flow of traffic so that cars have a good option will help lower the number of cars cutting through on Coleman so that more and more students will feel that it is safe to bike or walk to school.
Recently, Middlefield Avenue was changed from a two-lane street to a one-lane street (in both) directions between Willow and Ringwood— this is an entirely non-residential stretch of this road. While this same section of Coleman is entirely Residential. Perhaps the Country and City could work together to make Coleman one-way and have two lanes on Middlefield in the opposite direction to help coordinate the flow of traffic while keeping bike lanes on Middlfiend.
Just an idea, but it would be good to make some movement on this issue and try the one-way.
