Honorable Mayor and Council Members:
You are cordially invited to the 100 Year Centennial Celebration to the end of WORLD WAR I. The City of Menlo Park had one of the
largest U.S. Army training camps in the nation, mushrooming the local population of approx. 2,300 citizens to over 40,000. The U.
S. Army Camp was known as Camp Fremont.
During 1916, 1917 and 1918 Menlo Park roads, railroad, businesses, entertainment, etc. were transformed. It's an interesting
story, which will be shared by a panel of local experts - a special event NOT TO BE MISSED.
In 1938, the City created Fremont Park. To this day, near the flag poles, are interesting monuments to WW II soldiers, as part of
creating a Memorial Park, remembering the lives lost during hard fought battles.
A special treat will be the unveiling of two permanently installed STORYBOARDS, discussing the History of Camp Fremont. The Menlo
Park Historical Association (MPHA) in cooperation with the City of Menlo Park, has taken a special pride in their design. We hope
that adults and children alike will enjoy them.
The event is on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2018, beginning at 10:30 am, at Fremont Park, located at the corner of Santa Cruz Avenue and
University Drive, across the street from Peet's Coffee.
