Honorable Mayor and Council Members,
I would hope that part of the discussion during the election process would center on the important topic of ART IN MENLO PARK.
As you know, we have 1 utility cabinet decorated - it is located at Fremont Park. There are also NO members on the MENLO PARK ART
COMMISSION. Helping to provide culture to a community in the form of art can be found in many formats, such as Dance, Music,
Theater, Sculpture, Painting and Poetry - to name a few.
Art can lift spirits, it has the potential to inspire and overall has been a part of civilization since the beginning of time -
yet, the City Council has chosen NOT to interview and select a few interested and qualified local citizens to this Committee. Why
? Why not ?
Yes, we need brick and mortar. Development is everywhere. Coupled to this could be a variety of forms of art. Why not now? Why not
here? It's a choice. What is your position? Meeting quarterly for an hour would help get this started. It would take a minimum of
staff time. Perhaps during the GOAL SETTING session in January 2019 this topic can be discussed.
Respectfully,
Jim Lewis
