Coleman Street - One Way Proposal

Dear Council,

I was just made aware of a proposal to restrict Coleman Avenue to one way traffic heading towards Ringwood Avenue at all times. As a resident of Lindenwood, this is a terrible idea. While it may make it safer for children during the morning commute, it creates a multitude of problems and also puts a huge amount of traffic onto Bay Road and Middlefield Road (now changed to only one lane from Ringwood to Willow).

If you move forward with this proposal, you are not taking into account that 95% (or more)* of the time, children are not biking or walking to and from school. If this proposal goes forward, drivers will be cutting through the Vintage Oaks/Santa Monica neighborhoods to get to their destinations (and speeding since itll take longer to get to their destinations than if there was a direct route) and increasing traffic on the already logjammed Bay Road. I drive along Coleman Avenue heading from Ringwood to Willow on two of the weekday mornings for our carpool. Its not that bad. This proposed solution will create many more problems than it solves.

And the idea of one way traffic during 95% of the time when this is a non-issue seems ludicrous. I implore you to really consider the ramifications of such a nonsensical change to Coleman Avenue.

Best regards, Veronica Kogler

* The affected hours are actually closer to 3% of the time only during the school year (5 hours / 168 hours = 2.9%); its a nonissue when school is not in session
