Some of the largest semi-trucks that deliver to The Willows Market have started making a left turn out of the service road that
runs behind the market and has a stop sign at the junction of Woodland and Baywood.
It is my understanding from reading Municipal Code section 11.48.040 that since these semis are not delivering goods to these
streets they are not allowed to drive on them and certainly not as a part of their regular exit from the market’s loading dock.
It appears that they take this rout because taking the right turn out of the service road toward Middlefield is fairly difficult.
I know this because the hedge along my property line and the service road is regularly scraped as they try to make that turn and
it also requires them to us the oncoming traffic lane on Woodland to make that turn which causes periodic gridlock from non
commercial cars and trucks trying to access Woodland Ave. into the Willows neighborhood.
A sign needs to be mounted at the service road stop sign that informs commercial trucks over 3 tons that they can only turn right
off the service road.
I’m not sure how to solve the problem of the semis difficulty in making that turn and I expect that the problem will become worse
if/when the currently proposed building is constructed at 40 Middlefield.
