Yes indeed. And what I find interesting is Kaepernick's choice of symbolism. Not thumbing the nose or other insult, but kneeling, which connotes obeisance. Remember the scene in "The King and I" in which the governess struggles to pose herself lower than the
King because protocol requires it? The football player is saying our rulers are requiring too much subordination of human rights and human autonomy.
