Dear Mayor, Vice-Mayor, and City Councilmembers,
Please approve the recommendation of the Menlo Park Housing Commission to commit $600k from the Citys BMR Housing Fund to Strategic Alliant for 87 affordable homes for teachers and school staff at 320 Sheridan Rd.
I support this project because it will make it possible for the teachers and staff who serve our community to actually live in our community. We live in one of the most expensive places in the country and teachers and school staff cannot afford to live here.
Today, too many folks can only find affordable housing by moving far away from Menlo Park. This is bad for our environment, and it reduces the quality of life for these workers and their families. And when we reduce traffic into Menlo Park, we all benefit!
Nearby Jefferson Union School District experienced dramatic improvement in recruitment and retention when they provided affordable housing for their staff. I look forward to seeing similar improvements right here in Menlo Park with the addition of affordable housing for teachers and school staff.
