Dear City Council,
I live on Gilbert Avenue and frequently walk along Santa Monica Avenue and Coleman Avenue, and while I applaud your efforts to slow the traffic on Coleman, and I agree with putting in an all-way stop sign at Coleman Avenue and Santa Monica, I do not agree with making Coleman one way, and removing street parking on one side of the street. Where are the apartment residents supposed to park? They will all start parking on Santa Monica. Making Coleman one-way will funnel even more traffic onto Santa Monica. The proposed solution does nothing to slow the traffic, it just forces it onto other streets.
How difficult would it be to have a MPPD officer enforcing the speed limit, especially during school commute hours?
Traffic all over Menlo Park is a tremendous problem as drivers search for faster routes to get to their destinations. Shifting the problem from one street onto another is not the solution. Maybe we start with enforcing the traffic laws?
