My name is Lauren McLaughlin. I was born and raised in Menlo Park, and am currently a sophomore atStanford University. I am
writing to you torequestthat you please pass the EV charging ordinance tonight,for the following reasons:
1)Passenger vehicles are the single biggest source of carbon emissions and air pollution in California.
2)To meet our city’s and the state’s climate goals and the Paris Climate Accord and keep our planet habitable, we must move from
gasoline cars to clean alternatives like electric vehicles as quickly as possible.
3)Our city is a leader in EV adoption; Menlo Park’s new EV adoption rate is 18% a year and growing fast. We can set an example for
the country by continuing to increase EV adoption rates.
4)People in apartments don’t drive EVs because they have nowhere to charge them. Requiring more EV charging innew construction
will encourage further EV adoption.Please help us breathe cleaner air and promote a healthier climate by passing the EV ordinance.
