Honorable Mayor and Council Members,
In Menlo Park, art has been a tradition for decades. Even the early inhabitants, such as the Ohlone Indians, celebrated art in
many ways, such as sketches, dance and music.
Art brings life to a community. It helps to shape its culture. Whether one finds it in the form of paintings, sculpture, poetry,
dance, music and a myriad of other popular ways, it's indisputable that a community is enhanced with art.
That is why the question of whether to re-establish the Menlo Park Art Commission is important. Can this question be placed on
your agenda?
My sense is, the City will have no problem finding seven interested and qualified citizens to serve. Atherton next door has an Art
Commission, as does Palo Alto, Mountain View and Sunnyvale. Why do they have them - because they work. They serve a purpose. You
might say, they bring more to life.
Thank you for your time and consideration - and for your dedicated service to the community.
Respectfully,
Jim Lewis
