Council Members.
This letter is to tell you, at once, that I do not support new libraries, as
advised by Monica Corman, president of the Menlo Park Library Foundation.
I quickly went to a dictionary to be sure if I understood the definition of the word, library.
I was assured that Ms Corman seems to be talking about a hybrid idea that clearly goes
beyond both tradition and definition in which the current Library excels
Her worries , as described, and enforced by large numbers are easy to dismiss as efforts
to enforce her wishes.
I find the Menlo Park Library and its fine staff to be just right-- a good library, with good collections
of that which libraries are called upon to obtain. I say this after years of attendance --and over the past
81 years, some of which found me in libraries in the United States and Europe.
Palo Alto made a mess of their system and I hope Menlo Park won't do the same .
Humbly tendered
Phil Spickler, age 87. a walking local history book
