Dear All,
We are writing to respectfully request that the City put up stop signs in the Willows at the corners of Central Ave./Elm St. and Central Ave./Walnut St. We live at the corner of Central and Walnut and are concerned about the increasing number of accidents and near-misses at these intersections. Last week, a cyclist was hit by a car at one intersection and last month a little girl on her way to school at Willow Oaks was hit at our intersection. We have also seen car accidents at this intersection, including a car that jumped the curb and ended up on our neighbor’s front lawn, and regularly hear horns blaring because of close calls.
Both of these intersections are part of major pathways for children going to and from school at Laurel Upper Campus, Alto and Willow Oaks. Cars regularly speed down Central Ave. because, unlike other roads in the Willows, there is a big stretch with no stop signs to slow them down. The problem is getting worse as more and more traffic flows through the neighborhood. While measures like cutting down obstructing bushes on the corners will help, we believe that stop signs will provide a more certain fix to the problem.
We encourage you to act before an accident results in tragedy. Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Tracy Morris and Chris DeCardy
