Dear City Council and Staff,
The Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser to fight cancer. It happens in 5,000 cities worldwide,
and Menlo Park is one of them!!! This year’s Relay will take place August 11-12 at Burgess Park. The format is a walking relay.
Each team tries raise money and put people on the track to walk in solidarity with cancer patients.
The City actually has a team—Team Menlo! Generally we get good representation from the Police Department, and the FireFighters
Foundation BBQ our Dinner. I would like to see the Council and Staff on that team as well! (We have a team from Palo Alto Office
of Emergency Services, and it would be a shame to be outshone by them!)
To sign up, go to

and hit JOIN OUR TEAM. If you’ve never relayed before, you will start by creating an account (upper left on a desktop, at the
bottom on mobile site). Follow the prompts and then choose to “join an existing team,” Team Menlo. (NB: there are other teams with
similar names! Menlo Church, Menlo College, etc.)
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU JOIN?
Well,
· you’ll get your own personal fundraising page.
· I’ll send you some fundraising tips.
· If you raise $100 by the 4th of July, you’ll get a t-shirt. If you raise more, there are cooler prizes.
· If you are in town on August 11, you come on out and walk! We start at 11am and we go all night. It is a RELAY, though, so you
only need to walk for as long as you like. We have bands playing, and so it is kind of an all day picnic. We light Luminaria at 8
or 9 pm, so that is another lovely time to be present. If you are out of town, you can STILL join the team and fundraise to
support our fight against cancer.
Please feel free to ask me if you have questions.
Hope to see your names appearing on the roster!
