We do not need or want another library on a different site! Our
beautiful main library does the job it needs to do very well. If there
is a need which isn't being met (like the tiny tots and other large
noisy programs), wouldn't it be better to relocate them to Arrillaga or
some other place more suitable to the noise level generated by these
programs? Making that adjustment would better serve the majority of
library users who need quiet places to study and read. Building a
bigger library fails to meet their needs.
As a regular volunteer at Project Read, I have had first hand experience
observing the disruptions that occur when there are even slight changes
to the library routine (like when the rugs were changed). Just the
reduction in parking places during construction will be a nightmare!
This McMansion project will generate worse problems than the ones
library patrons experienced during the construction of the Arrillaga
Center.
My husband and I hope you will reconsider this ill advised attempt to
jettison our stylish and comfortable library on Alma.
Thank you for your attention.
