To the members of the Menlo Park City Council:
Libraries are increasingly evolving from book repositories to full-scale community centers used by citizens of all ages to read,
study, meet, socialize and borrow books. Menlo Park library’s current main branch and Belle Haven facilities are simply inadequate
to meet the needs of today and tomorrow’s library patrons. While the new library project will require an investment from the City,
this financial commitment will be substantially reduced by a multi-million dollar contribution from a private donor. It is clear
that Menlo Park has many competing needs for resources, including affordable housing, traffic mitigation and others. However, I
believe that new facilities in Belle Haven and downtown Menlo Park will make a significant contribution to the long-term public
good in Menlo Park. I urge you to vote “yes” on moving this project forward.
Regards,
