Greetings,
I saw an Instagram advertisement encouraging me to sign a petition opposing the Citys plans to convert surface parking lots into affordable housing. I write to express my strong support for the proposed affordable housing development. We need to acknowledge the regional and statewide housing crisis and act with urgency. Menlo Park is an unaffordable place to live for nearly everyone; my wife and I tried to buy a house in the city but were outbid.
I understand that home and business owners have concerns about parking, but we cannot hold up desperately needed housing while so many people in the region sleep in shelters or outdoors. I believe it is a moral imperative that we build as much affordable housing as possible, and I believe the proposed development will bring even more life and vibrancy to a downtown that can sometimes feel sleepy. Please continue to advance the housing element plan so Menlo Park can be a welcoming place for people of all income levels!
