Hello Menlo Park City Council,
I am writing to encourage you to proceed with your plan for reimagining the use of your downtown surface parking lots to incorporate affordable housing alongside their continued use for parking. The downtown parking lots are a critical component of the submitted Menlo Park Housing Element.
I work in Menlo Park and am lucky to live closeby in Palo Alto. Living nearby my work saves me time in commuting, allows me to bike to work, and generally makes me feel more integrated in the community. Many of my colleagues commute in from Santa Cruz, San Jose, the East Bay and as far as Concord, given the high cost and limited stock of housing here.
Palo Alto is also proceeding with plans for affordable housing on our downtown lots and I am excited for more of our communitys workers to live here through the affordable homes we are building.
