Menlo Park City Councilmembers,
I am writing to advocate for a full-size playing field to be included as part of the SRI development, as well as other dedicated city amenities.
I currently play adult womens soccer, and I am on the leadership board of Menlo Atherton Adult Soccer League (MAASL). MAASL plays full-field 11v11 womens soccer at Burgess and Kelly Fields in Menlo Park. Due to the high demand for field space, MAASL is sometimes unable during our desired schedule for games. When Kelly field was scheduled to be closed for field repairs, the league was unable to find any other local field with availability. MAASL is a mainstay in the lives of its players and to lose field access would be devastating.
We need full fields in Menlo Park (full-size for 11v11 soccer, turf for all-weather play, with lights so that we can play in the evening). Please include that as part of the SRI development.
Additionally/alternatively, adding lights to the field at Burgess would also extend the usable hours for that grass field, and then MAASL could play on Burgess in the evenings.
