Council Districting

Council Members
The Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce has actively participated in the process of establishing Districting maps for the City Council
to review and take action on. Chamber representatives have attended all the Advisory Districting Committee meetings that were held
over the past few months In addition the Chamber of Commerce developed a five District map (5-019) that was submitted to the
Committee in an attempt to ensure the business community along with residents are fairly represented.
Even though the Chamber’s map was not selected by the Advisory Districting Committee (the map was seriously considered by the
Committee) it appears that the five District Map, 5-007a that has been submitted to the Council adequately represents both the
business and residential communities. With that said the Chamber has reviewed the map very carefully and has the following
recommended changes in order of priority to District Map 5-007a for City Council consideration:
1. El Camino Real: Bifurcate El Camino Real, between San Francisquito Creek and Ravenswood Ave, allocating the east side to
District 3, and west side to District 4. This change properly aligns the two districts placing future rail changes, such as grade
separations, bike/pedestrian crossings, a potential shoefly for construction and any other resulting implications from High-Speed
Rail in District 3 where residential properties are closely located to the rail line. This boundary is a “zero” population area
and will not create statistical change.
2. Downtown: Extend the District 3 downtown border from Crane to University Avenue to better reflect the business district.
Thank you for your consideration
