I am a homeowner in downtown Menlo Park for over 20 years and I am alarmed at the proposed DT housing project plans. I believe it will be destructive for the city residents and businesses. I am asking you consider another venue such as Civic center where it will not involve all the DT businesses and residents.
I am also concerned about everything from the construction disruption to obstructed views of offices on Oak Grove.
Have you also considered the social needs of very low income residents? Mental health and medical and where they would get care? This population has increased and different needs than the current residents.
I am also concerned about an uptick in crime or petty theft. How are you vetting the prospective tenants? Will there be a criminal check as part of the vetting process? I would also expect with 400 low-income people for the possibility of more disruptions such as domestic disputes or even domestic violence which tends to increase in lower income population. Are the police prepared for more crisis calls?
Sincerely
Margaret Gordon
