Dear Honorable Members of the Menlo Park City Council
My name is Alejandro Vilchez and I am a resident of the Belle Haven neighborhood (1149 Howard Street). I have been a resident of
this neighborhood since 2005 and my four children have attended and currently attend the surrounding schools, Beechwood School and
Mid-Peninsula High School.
During my time here I have seen multiple changes in this small area of Menlo Park some of which have had both positive and
negative impacts as it relates to housing affordability, traffic, city services, neighborhood vibrancy and advocacy. Despite the
changes however I have been discouraged by the lack of political representation for this area; it’s residents, it’s history and
human capital.
This is why I am writing to you to state that I support the 5 District Plan to ensure equitable representation of the Belle Haven
neighborhood as the other 4 districts. I do not support a plan that would establish an at large mayor with a seven-member city
council. Doing so will further decrease the lack of voice and choice of many Belle Haven residents from historically
under-represented communities such Black, Brown, Pacific Islander, the undocumented and seniors.
