Dear Council,
I strongly support the proposed development of housing on existing parking lots in Menlo Park This is a critical step toward addressing our housing crisis and prioritizing people over cars.
Concerns about losing parking spaces are understandable but misplaced. Since the pandemic, parking fees and enforcement have been suspended, inflating demand. Reinstating these policies can help manage parking needs while freeing up land for housing. Investments in public transit, shared mobility, and cycling infrastructure can further reduce dependence on personal vehicles.
Prioritizing housing over parking is not just practical—it is equitable. By converting parking lots into homes, we can create a more sustainable, inclusive community, with greater economic vitality. I urge the council to act boldly and move forward with this proposal.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Weiner
