Hi, Council members
After the Tuesday night Redistricting Advisory Commission meeting, I am convinced that there is no six district map that will work. This is kind of a disappointment because six districts balanced by an at-large mayor is a good idea in the abstract, and of course they will submit at least one such map. But there is something wrong with all the six district maps. Either they split the area on our side of 101, which has a community of interest that should not be divided; or they consolidate too much of the downtown business area in a single district, giving too much influence to non-resident business owners; or they are open to legal challenges; or some combination of these. The Chamber of Commerce presented a five-district map that looks just about perfect. Other five district maps are almost as good. In case I am not here for the meeting where these matters are discussed, please consider me in favor of a five district map only.
Thanks for giving so much of your lives to Menlo Park.
