Dear City Council. I have lived in Menlo Park for over 17 years. I do want the downtown to thrive, but think this proposal is the wrong way to approach it. Driving through Saratoga this weekend was eye opening. Stunning downtown. Thriving. No significant building or low income housing in their downtown. We are a small town, not like Redwood City. It should be a place people want to visit even if they don’t live here.

When I was younger and couldn’t afford Menlo Park, my wife and I lived in Redwood City very happily. I don’t think anyone has a right to live in Menlo Park.

I oppose the downtown plan. I don’t buy into the idea that we have surplus parking, but would support a parking study that indicated that during peak times we had surplus parking. I can never park near Coffeebar b/c parking is always full. I would support looking into the Burgess park idea. I know the state has us in a bind and lower priced housing is becoming increasingly important around the area and we need to do our part, but downtown is not the right way.

Thank you,
Chris
